Today is Mother's Day in Jefferson 1st ward> As such, we had one youth speaker. Then we had the primary sing "Mother I love you". We had 10 children and 5 primary workers sing. Then, on the song, "A child's prayer", the Bishop's son, who was the youth speaker ,he is probably 23-or 24, stood and joined the choir to give it another voice. It really was quite lovely. I reflected on Chris's ward that they would have had 30 times as many children singing. But I don't think there could have been any lovelier spirit than we had today. Sister G., the eccentric 70 year old was the main speaker. She gave a lovely talk about mothers, and Abraham Lincoln's mother in particular. It was a lovely talk. She was dressed in a black camisole, and a hot, hot, neon pink dress, with rings on every finger, about 7 or 8 necklaces, this interesting hair piece in place, stilettos, and shear polka dotted nylons. The polka dots were about the circumference of a tennis ball. Sister G. is about 5 feet tall. All in all she makes an interesting woman to look at, but her talk was very humble and very well done.
We went to Sunday School. The lesson we taught was on Baptism. We had a small class, only 6 individuals, with 4 being non members. One person, Melanie, started investigating the church about 6 months ago. Then she just dropped out of coming. She decided that she would come back today. It seems she had a few questions on baptism. She was amazed when she walked in and we were talking about baptism. We were reading from the Book of Mormon and when she found her place in the scriptures and started reading the verses, she realized she was reading the answers to her questions. She then announced she had been looking for answers and was now going to be baptized. I talked with her after class while we were waiting to go into Relief Society. She said that she investigated the church several months ago but she just wanted to make sure there wasn't any other church out there. She said she just felt in her gut that our church was right. She said she had been thinking about baptism and when she walked into class today, she said her questions had been answered and wasn't that amazing. I commented that I didn't believe in coincidence and that Heavenly Father must really love her to answer her questions. She thought for a minute and then just said "yah, it is so amazing". We'll have to see if she gets baptized.
This mission has been incredible for me because we have incidents like this each week teaching investigators. If they only could recognize that what they feel is the Holy Ghost testifying to them that the church is true. I hope I have served the Lord well, with all my heart and soul, this mission, to help in bringing others to him.I have truly loved this mission and I can say that it has been 20 of the most memorable, remarkable, happy, and rewarding months of my life. I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve Heavenly Father. I don't know that anyone else in our family has been blessed, but without a doubt, I have personally been so blessed with Heavenly Father's love and His spirit testifying that he lives, Heavenly Father loves me, and this work is so true. How would I have learned these lessons if we hadn't have answered the prophet's call to serve? I hope my whole family will know of my love for God and Jesus Christ, as my Savior, and that I love each of them more than they will ever know. I hope they too will someday answer the call to serve and be worthy to do so.
