Saving One Soul

I knew when we were called that I would have limited opportunities to share the Gospel and save someone's soul. Today, I had an experience that made me feel like I was at the right place at the right time. It was just a little past 4:00pm. The other Senior couple had already left for the day. A phone call came in and I answered it. "Hi, I am at Lindquist Mortuary. We currently are having a service for a veteran. Another veteran is here participating and I really think that he is going to commit suicide after the services. I have tried to contact his Bishop. He is in the _____ ward, but I couldn't get him. I really think if you could just send some missionaries to give him a blessing, he will be OK."
"OK but"...I replied.
"He is so upset. I just know that he is going to take his life."
"Have you called the Police?" "Do you want me to call the police for you?"
"No I just need your help with some missionaries right now."
"OK, I'll get some on the way to you right now".
So I called one of our APs, Elder S. and his companion, Elder B. They immediately responded with, "OK, we are on our way, thanks for the opportunity."
I then hunted down the man's bishop's wife...the bishop would not be available for another 45 minutes, but she assured me her husband would follow up with him today.
An hour and a half later, I called the lady at the mortuary to make sure the missionaries had made it there OK. She said yes, that they were still with him. I told her that I had made a connection with the bishop. She was much relieved about the help the man was getting.  I finally left to come home. When I got home, I sent a text message to the Elders that I had contacted the Bishop's wife, so they could let Bro. S know. About another hour and a half later, I received the following text message from the Elders: "We think it went really well with Bro. S. In the closing prayer he promised Heavenly Father that he wouldn't hurt himself. Thank you for asking us to come."
This is one of those times that I am grateful I could work with humble missionaries to save one soul.
