What was that you said?

i am learning that with a "global" group of missionaries I am never quite sure what they say is really what they mean or are talking about. For example, a few days ago, a missionary said to me, "Sister Lund, you are so bomb dighity". I immediately responded, "Well Elder, that's the nicest thing anyone has said to me.". He responded, "Well, it's true". I then said, "Elder I need to write that down so I don't forget". Elder M., who is from South Africa said, " spell dig. Now add -h-i-t-y and you have dighity. Now spell bomb. With his accent, I looked at him surprisingly and he responded, "It is spelled just like you would normally spell it, B-o-m-b". "OK," I responded. He then said, "That's right, Bomb dighity". He then said, "It means awesome Sister Lund. Bomb dighity!" Who would have guessed, he was paying me a compliment.

Today, another Elder, Elder C. came to the office just to show us his $15.00 DI suit. He exclaimed, "Do you like my rubber suit?' I just asked back, "Rubber?" "Yah, just feel my sleeve it is like rubber". What he was meaning was, the suit was made of polyester. I just said"Gosh, Elder C. we could take you outside and hose you down with the hose to clean you up." "Yah", he just said. "But look at my tie. I got it from a dying missionary. It is perfect for the suit". And I must say it really was. The suit was a light brown with baby blue pinstripe and the tie was an obnoxious orange and green, large plaid design. He looked so 70's. It was quite funny. But what was the best, was what Elder E., our quadraplegic, said. "Perhaps there was a reason that tie was on a dead missionary." We, in the office, laughed. But later on, Elder Lund said to me, "Why would a missionary ever want to wear a tie from a "dead"missionary? I laughed and had to again remind Elder Lund that "dead" in missionary lingo means that the missionary had served his mission and was going home, not that he was dead dead.  I guess it is all in what you say.
Anyway, I try to listen very closely to what they say to me.
