Reflections of a Sunday

We went to the Jefferson 1st ward. Baby Elijah made his first appearance at church. He is almost a month old. Mom and Dad are members but are just becoming active. They have been attending the investigator class that we teach. I crocheted around a burp cloth and bought a couple of little sleepers for him. They didn't come to class today as mom looked tired and baby brother was somewhat sick with colitis, and dad had to go to work.

Drake came to church today. It has probably been two months since he came. He got a short haircut. I said hello to him, but he said he could only attend sacrament meeting today. Cindy, his live in girlfriend, didn't come. I think Drake would be baptized if he could get married, but Cindy still isn't divorced from her first husband. Living together without being married makes baptism hard.

Linsey came today. He was baptized about 4 months ago. Came for several weeks, passed the sacrament, then stopped coming for awhile. But he came today.

Hazel, a fellow, has been struggling with smoking. He is very quiet and shy, but has started to read the Book of Mormon. I wonder why he wasn't at church today.

Stephanie, who was baptized a week ago was a church. She sat behind us in Sacrament meeting today and I tried to introduce her to everyone I know. We took her home after church. It is quite a distance  away from the church to her house. It is an effort to walk. She said it took almost 15 minutes to get to church from her home.

Sean was arrested last week, and was bailed out. He didn't come today. I guess he had other issues on his mind.

Danielle and Patrick were new investigators today. We had one other brother, probably about 55-60 years old, who came. The full time missionaries are currently teaching him. He said he was glad he came today.

The other couple in class moved into the ward 4 months ago but were "shopping" for the correct Sunday School Class to attend. After class, the sister offered to teach the class in the future....I must not have done a very good job of teaching the class.

Brother Lee got up in Sacrament Meeting before the closing prayer to go home. He is the Ward Mission Leader who is called to teach the investigator class. He is gone more than he is in attendance. (He is a somewhat inactive mission leader). We were sitting by Elder Otis and Elder Olson. They just leaned over and said as he was leaving, "Looks like you are on for teaching the Sunday School Class".  That gave me about 5 minutes to glance over the lesson and then walk into the classroom. Today's lesson was on "The Purpose of Temples". We had 3 investigators and 3 members in the class along with Elder Otis, Elder Olson, Elder Lund and I. After the class was over, one investigator said to me that he was glad he came to class today because he learned about genealogy and he was interested in doing more of it. Elder Otis and Elder Olson will be meeting with him tomorrow.

Jefferson 1st ward is an interesting ward. I am becoming better acquainted with the investigators and for the most part, I think they are beginning to trust me and our friendship. I guess time will tell as to if the seeds planted will grow or not. I love being involved in the work besides just working in the office. There is some excitement and enthusiasm that comes in sharing the Gospel. There is also some disappointment and sadness when people you care about don't care as strongly as you do for the Gospel. I am learning many "life lessons" and learning about how important the gospel really is to me. I am so grateful for this experience that I am having with Elder Lund.

Next Sunday is Stake Conference. It actually will be a regional conference in Dee Events Center. The visiting general authority-----Pres. Monsen.  I'll let you know how that goes.
Love to you all.
