This and That

This blog is a combination of things. As usual, we have been busy. I have sent a few missionaries home these past two weeks. They went home earlier than scheduled, one because of needing to report to college for football training. Another, because he was told that if he didn't come home a few weeks early, he would be considered AWOL. You see, he had enlisted in the military and had a two year deferment. Now, the two years were up. I really liked Elder A. He went home on Wed. and called the office on Thursday. He had been speaking with the person next to him on the airplane and was calling in a referral for the missionaries to go visit the person. He was literally working until he got off the plane.

We ended up taking 11 missionaries out to eat at various times this week. I really feel that some of the missionaries working in inner city Ogden are really going without food and are hungry. We ate at one Mexican restaurant that was very interesting. It was a favorite of the Elders. But in reality, the missionaries we went with were from Honduras, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, and Mexico. I ended up trying a piece of "tongue" taco. From then on, I couldn't eat much and really became sick-feeling throughout the next 24 hours. I was, as Dick said, a good sport. Let me just say that next time I will suggest the restaurant we eat at. It was 50 cent taco day....now I know why.

On Friday, we started the day early. We were going to go home mid-day for a few hours as we were taking 3 sisters up to Clarkston to the Martin Harris pageant. As it turned out, the church motorpool called at noon, just as we were getting ready to go. They said they had 11 new cars for the mission and asked how soon we could come get them. I told them we would be there in an hour. So, we rounded up everyone in the office, took the van and drove another car in and we picked up and drove back to Ogden with the 11 new cars. It ended up being a very long day. We still picked the sisters up and drove to Clarkston and attended the pageant. By the time we got home, it was midnight.

Today while attending our Jefferson 1st ward, the brother who usually teaches the new investigator class was not there so the missionaries came and asked Elder Lund and I to teach the lesson. We love working with new investigators, but it is a little stressing just opening the book and teaching. After the class, one investigator mentioned that he had never felt the spirit so strongly as he did today. Another investigator said that this was the first day she had ever attended any church. She said she would like to come back again. That is what the Holy ghost does, testifies to people of gospel truths.

I really feel quite lucky that of all the members living along the Wasatch Front, Elder Lund and I are two of the most lucky people being able to be missionaries here.
