Sister Langford said today, "Honest, it really isn't this busy usually, except for transfer week. For some reason, it has just gotten busy and you've seen so many different things since you started 3 days ago."
Today, about 11:30am we found out that the six missionaries who had been waiting for Visas to Mexico were flying out of the country tomorrow at 9:45am. What that translates out to mean is craziness! Elders who are living in Smithfield, Garland, and Logan need to be packed up, picked up, brought to Ogden to spend the night tonight and ready to leave tomorrow at 6:00am. They will need a place to sleep tonight. Their current companions need to be assigned a new companion immediately. Dick and I found out how a mission office works to make this all happen.
Dick went to SLC to pick up visas and passports. (Then he spent the rest of the afternoon at the DMV getting a car registered). I confirmed all the travel plans, entered all the passport, visa, and travel information, emailed parents that their missionary was flying to Mexico in the am, completed exit papers, printed boarding passes, paid baggage fees, made confirmations of everything to give to everybody, and got all the paperwork ready for them to be assigned to Mexico. Then a plan was made as to who would pick up the elders today and who would get them to the airport by 6:45am tomorrow. It really was quite a day and both Dick and I love it! It was fun to see how everyone and everything came together.
Pres. Olson was at the office and commented how grateful he was that we were there. I guess this is all in a days work in the Utah Ogden Mission Office. The church surely is true! I don't know how any organization could coordinate and keep track of all the missionary comings and goings the way it does. It is amazing how each dept. works to do their job and then everything just "comes together" for the missionary good. Busy, yet good day. (I am hoping that I am going to be able to handle all of this once Sister Langford leaves.)
